CarFest South 2014 - Sunday - Music
The third and final day at Car Fest South saw performances from Texas, 10CC, The Feeling, Nell Bryden, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Jamie Cullum, Paul Heaton & Jacqui Abbott (The Beautiful South) and surprise guest DJ Dario G
Cakes Vs PiesBut before all of that it was time to head to the Seasick Steve stage for the annual Cakes Vs Pies competition. Judged by Mary Berry, Paul Hollywood and Sharleen Spiteri, Sophie's fabulous cake was victorious.
Having to leave the cakes and pies behind Sharleen headed over to the main stage to kick off the evenings entertainment with Texas
TexasShortly after starting Paul Hollywood brought a plate of food over to the front of the stage for Sharleen to nibble on.
After headlining the main stage last year Texas specifically requested to open the main stage for this years performance, so as to see the crowd in the light of day and give the full festival experience, this idea worked very well as they kept the crowd jumping around from the start until the very end of the set.
Nell BrydenOver on the Seasick Steve stage New York based Soul-Pop rocker Nell Bryden played a short yet mesmerising set.
10CCAll eyes then turned again to the main stage where 10CC played a host of hits which included "The Things We Do For Love" I'm Not In Love" "The Wall Street Shuffle" "I'm Mandy Fly Me" "Donna" and biggest hit of them all "Dreadlock Holiday"
The Tea DanceThe stage was taken over for a few minutes by a troupe of dancers rejoicing with the crowd for their love of tea.
Paul Heaton & Jacqui Abbott
Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott were up next on the Seasick Steve stage, for their first time on stage together since the disbandment of The Beautiful South they played a mix of songs including "Rotterdam" and a family version of "Don't Marry Her"
Chris Evans came on stage after the set to say thank you and asked Jacqui in front of the audience if she would be prepared to come back again next year, knowing that it would be rather hard to say anything other than yes in that situation Jacqui agreed to coming back in 2015 although it is unknown if it will be a duo again or if The Beautiful South will be reunited in their entirety, I for one am hoping for the latter and am certainly looking forward to the official announcement.
Chris Evans kept the party going on the Seasick Steve stage inviting the police officers working at the festival on stage to say thank you, along with Pudsey bear and of course greeting the crowd and keeping them well and truly warmed up ready for The Feeling.
The FeelingChris Evans then announced that it was time to focus over to the main stage where The Feeling launched enthusiastically into their set.
Three members of The Feeling were seen earlier taking a Hot Rod for a spin on the track.
The set contained hit singles and crowd pleaser's "Fill My Little World" "Never Be Lonely" "Love It When You Call" and "I Thought It Was Over"
They also played an interesting cover of "The Beastie Boy's - Fight For Your Right" which was accompanied by an aerial fireworks display.
One of the earlier auction prizes included a chance to announce a band on Stage, the time had come for the two girls pictured below who paid £1,000 to Children In Need to announce Sophie Ellis Bextor and get a couple of minutes of fame in-front of the sold out crowd.
Sophie Ellis BextorSophie came on stage and belted out five new songs from her newly released album Wanderlust, with the attention to detail set to maximum, so much so that even the dress she was wearing had "Wanderlust" embroidered onto it.
An onstage quick outfit change took the mood from serious to disco as a medley of hit disco songs of the 90's from Sophie Ellis Bextor's repertoire.
A very welcome surprise came next as Chris Evans enticed the crowd to shout out Dario.
I caught a glimpse of Dario G backstage however as there wasn't any mention of him in the programme I thought he was just there as a spectator, much to the crowd and my astonishment whilst Chris was keeping the crowd motivated a DJ booth was being built behind him on the Seasick Steve stage.
Dario GDario G complete with four dancers and percussionist kept the party going, he also received an award on stage for reaching 600,000 record sales earlier on in the week.
Jamie CullumThe final performance of the weekend came from Jamie Cullum who performed exceptionally well, with no part of the stage untouched by Jamie he began the performance drumming along whilst singing before jumping behind the piano and then the keyboard, he continued to belt out favourites chopping and changing his chosen instrument seemingly seamlessly mid song.
There is certainly a unique style behind Jamie's performance, graceful lounge songs filled with energy and vibrancy.
Of course the show was not over until Jamie had played his rendition of "New York" by special request from Chris Evans who then joined the select few on stage watching in admiration as we formed a semi circle around Jamie.
For some the weekend was over, for me however it was time to return back to the van and begin the process of scanning through the weekends footage and photos, more of which can be found on the Car Fest South Landing Page Here
