Ginger Wildheart's Birthday Bash - 17th Dec 2013Well here it is Tuesday 17th December 2013, one of the most anticipated events amongst Ginger Wildheart fans since this time last year, It is of course Ginger's birthday, Happy Birthday Ginger. Most people like to take the day off for their birthday, not this man, he's so devoted to his work and having fun whilst doing it he doesn't just throw a birthday party he, puts on a gig for all of the fans, inviting friends along to play & also plays himself.
For 3 hours pretty much non stop Ginger was on stage playing different instruments and singing along with 30+ guest artists and what's more he did it all with a gigantic smile upon his face. Waiting in anticipation whilst everyone's favourite guitar tech Dunc makes sure Gingers instruments are fully tuned and ready to go.
Having previously sold out the birthday bash when it was held in Camden last year the venue was changed to the larger capacity Koko which very nearly sold out also. You can see the sizeable audience in the photos below.
The warm up slot was given to Ginger's side project Hey! Hello!. and it was their début performance as a full group, the various members of the band have played together previously in the Ginger Wildheart Band, who were up next. As there is rather a lot of content I have decided to make a separate page for the Hey! Hello!. performance which can be found by clicking on the title below.
Hey! Hello!. Debut Performance @ Ginger Wildheart's Birthday BashI have set up a mini page for this article which can be found here
The Ginger Wildheart BandThe next band up were of course The Ginger Wildheart Band, another one of Gingers side projects they played an assortment of songs from their Classic Rock award winning album 555%
The 3rd song of the set "Lover It'l All Work Out" was sung by Jefferson Angell from american band The Walking Papers he also sung "Forget About It" before handing the microphone over to the next guest singer...
Random Jon and Victoria share a cuddle before the next batch of guests arrive on stage.
And then Finnish heartthrob Mikko Von Hertzen came on-stage to play guitar on "Do The Channel Bop" And "Sunshine From NYC" with Victoria also on vocals
I call this section the Random Jon Poole clambers atop a speaker stack and fist-pumps the air... quite apt I think
NY Loose front woman Brijitte West shares a hug with birthday boy Ginger before joining Sammy Andrews (Ginger and The Sonic Ciurcus) and Jase Edwards (Wolfsbane) to sing and play guitar on "Yeah Yeah Yeah"
Antiproduct frontman and former Clam Abuse guitarist Alex Kane came on and brought pretty much the entire band Starz with him to play "Cherry Baby" and "Loveshit"
Yolanda Quartey (Phantom Limb) joins Victoria Liedtke (Hey! Hello!., GWB) on stage to provide the backing vocals
Sami Yaffa and Ray Zeil then came on stage to play "Clock Strikes Ten" with Ray Zeil on vocals before Ozzy Osbournes guitarist Bernie Torme made his first appearance.
Paul-Ronney Angel joined Bernie Torme on stage and blew away the crowd with his performances of "Ain't That a Shame"
Yolanda came back on again and belted out "Please Please Please" and "Baby Blue" joined by Mikko on drums with Ginger and Sammi Yaffa on guitars
And then out of nowhere Frank Turner showed up and pretty much stayed for the rest of the night. he was joined on stage with Chris McCormack from the band 3 Colours Red.
Ginger's old manager Beki Bondage joined Rat Scabies from The Damned to perform "Neat Neat Neat" "Hit Or Miss" and "Smash It Up"
There was a brief interlude before Ginger came back on again this time alone and proceeded to play "Geordie In Wonderland"
I recorded a short video of this performance, within the video you will see what happened next was that Ginger introduced for the first time of the night CJ to the stage along with Ritch and Random Jon Poole to continue the seven song encore consisting of songs from The Wildhearts vast back catalog
Diamond Head guitarist Brian Tatler also joined in for "My Baby Is A Headfuck" and "Suckerpunch"
Frank Turner finished off the evenings entertainment belting out "I Wanna Go Where The People Go"
The full setlist promised to be an outstanding night when I first glanced at it earlier on in the evening, but I was certainly not ready to be as blown away as I was, Massive kudos to each and everybody that helped make this night happen, From Ginger himself, Manager Gav, Guitar techs Hot Steve and Dunc, All the artists that performed on the night and of course the audience of devout fans.
Sorry if I have missed anything out but even with the setlist in front of me there were a few last minute changes made to the bill.
Next up on Ginger's busy roster is the new album release for The Ginger Wildheart Band, which is due to be released on the 23rd December through http://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/practicalmusician
He then takes Hey! Hello!. and The Wildhearts on tour in the UK in April 2014, Tour dates and tickets can be found by going to the official website. http://www.thewildhearts.com/ |
