Car-Fest South 2013 - Live Stage - Friday 23-08-2013The afternoon soon came and saw the 60,000 strong crowds across the three days shift to the Live Stage side of the festival site, Where some very special performances were to unfold.
Friday evenings entertainment started with the hour long rehearsal of BBC's The One Show, This was rather funny to observe and see how the show was to develop around the surroundings of the festival, I was at the rehearsal taking some photos of the set and presenters when Carrie Grant randomly asked me if I had a musical song that really got on my nerves, Startled that I had been asked the first thing that came speeding out of my mouth was a rather loud and embarrassing No. Carrie swiftly moved on and the rehearsal continued as I tried to hide in total embarrassment.
As soon as the rehearsal was over the live filming of The One Show obviously carried on without my input. Sharleen Spiteri was a guest on the show and spoke about her band Texas's new single called Detroit which was to be played later on in the evening during their set.
The Children In Need pre filming for The One Show saw Chris Evans and Pudsey Bear dashing around the whole festival grounds to open many attractions, including the Armed Forces mock camp, The Helter Skelter And the Cakes Vs Pies tent. Chris Evans even tried out shoulder mounted rocket launcher.
There was also a festival award feature on the show where some of the awards were given for Capturing The Spirit Of The Festival And The Best Hair In Show.
The One Show was played out by The Wurzles with "I Am A Cider Drinker" whilst Chris Evans, Alex Jones, Sharleen Spiteri and Pudsey Bear filled the stage line dancing, the audience also participated as best they could to attempt the worlds largest line dance.
The Wurzles then continued their set of hits from the 70's including "Combine Harvester" "The Champion Dung Spreader" "Blackbird" and a less crowded stage version of "I Am A Cider Drinker"
The Wurzles finished and Chris Evans entered the stage yet again to introduce a very special guest of his, This guest was none other than Seasick Steve who then said he was happy to be at the festival and take in all of the sights and sounds so far, he then explained that he had driven back home to ask his wife's permission to come back to the festival and spend the weekend. and that she said yes as it was all for BBC Children In Need, he also announced that he would be performing a special and previously unannounced show on the Saturday.
The next artist up on stage was Nathan Watson, This was the first time I have heard of this artist and I must admit I from the moment Nathan and his band came on stage I was mesmerised, The funky guitar licks and the inclusion of a box drum made for a really great sound, This is certainly an artist I will be catching again soon.
Chris Evans came onto the main stage with his son Noah and one of Noah's friends who then introduced the next band.
Bjorn Again then came on stage and filled the set with all of the biggest ABBA hits. They certainly looked and sounded the part.
Next up were Texas, Who performed all most if not all of the greatest hits, many many songs that I remember from the 90's and early 2000's which have all played their part in the soundtrack to my childhood.
"I Don't Want A Lover" "Say What You Want" "Black Eyed Boy" And "Summer Son" Were all firm favourites with the crowd and myself alike. The Set ended with Seasick Steve being invited onto stage by Sharleen Spiteri, He came on stage and played with Texas before playing a solo lullaby for the audience upon Chris Evans request, more of a teaser for what was to happen on Saturday.
With this remarkable performance it was time to head back to the van and prepare myself for an early morning start on Saturday at the festival.
