Goodwood Revival 2013 - SaturdayDay two at the Goodwood Revival, Looking through the programme Friday evening I had tried to make an action plan for today so as to cram as much as I could into the one day, So with my plan my aim was to head trackside, On the way I bumped into many members of the Goodwood Actors Guild in different guise, pictured below is the Dads Army Camp.
When I made it to the assembly area I saw this amazing looking Thunderbird Pace Car.
RAC TT Celebration - Official Practice Number 2, This was a rather power hungry practice session vastly dominated by the AC Cobras of the group making 1st,3rd,5th and 10th places, It was also one of the noisiest sessions of the day the low rumbling exhaust note from all of the cars in the heat was certainly set to wake you up in the morning.
The Jim Clarke Tribute included a collection of video clips which I had the privilidge of observing alongside some of the worlds most respected drivers still alive and driving to this day including Sir Stirling Moss, Sir Jackie Stewart and John Surtees as pictured below
After we had watched the recordings it was time for the drivers to head to their cars for a fast lap celebration in some of Jim Clarke's most famous racing cars from the years gone by.
The St Mary's Trophy Part 1 was next race on the agenda, a very fast race with many top drivers trying to get the best advantage in preparation of the second race session that was due to be held on Sunday. I thought I would head down to the assembly area as the drivers prepared themselves.
This race session had plenty of famous celebrities at the wheel of all manner of different production saloon cars from 1960-1966 however not all of the celebrities were known for their driving and more known in other areas including Olympic Cyclist Chris Hoy, TV Chef James Martin and Actor Rowan Atkinson.
This race was one I had been waiting to see, having some top drivers all competing for the best advantage points to enable a better lead for Sundays race, Jochen Mass and Tom Kristensen were certainly pushing the mighty Ford Galaxie 500's to the limits with Frank Stippler getting ever quicker lap times and finishing between the pair in his Alfa Romeo 1600 GTA
One of my favourite races of the weekend had to be the Whitsun Trophy mainly due to the race being made up entirely of Ford GT40's in different variants and colour schemes, this historic one make race was to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the GT40 and what a way to celebrate.
Later on in the afternoon there was another air display featuring the Canberra, A brace of Warhawks the Spitfire and Mustang Duo along with a Hawker Hurricane finishing the set.
I decided to take a wander around "Over The Road" and took a look at some of the cars in the car park, amongst the many cars I found this beautiful yellow BMW 3.0 CSL
The Richmond Trophy was the next race to be held, Followed by the Chichester Cup pictured below. This race was full of spins due to the high power to weight ratio and the cars being so light they just seemed to be doing pirouettes at will, however entertaining this was I can imagine the drivers feeling rather worried about the livelihood of the cars future especially when David Woodhouse's 1961 Dolphin-Ford Mk2 came a cropper on the home straight.
The end of the evening track-side was played out by the Mustang Spitfire Duo circling overhead and performing some low passes across the airfield side of the track.
However the fun still continued Over The Road at the buskers stage and Old Speckled Hen Live Music Stage.
