Silverstone Classic Day One - Qualifying
With day one of Silverstone Classic under-way and having never been to Silverstone before upon arrival I decided to take a wander around and familiarise myself with my home for the next three days.
I had found myself a suitable trackside location to view the tail end of the qualifying session for the "Brian Henton Trophy For Classic Formula 3"
From the grandstand I spotted another location that I liked the look of, so headed over to "The Loop" after the session to catch the entire "Sir John Whitmore Trophy For Under 2 Litre Touring Cars" qualifying session.
The viewpoint was one that I revisited a few times over the weekend, it was pretty exciting to watch the under 2 litre touring cars qualify as they mostly came round in batches.
With the track clear I was allowed to take a walk across to check out the view from the other side before the next session.
Behind the international pits straight there was an area set out for Karting and Hot Rod demonstrations, I stayed for a bit of the Karting demo and returned a little later for the Hot Rods, the gentleman below was racing his very own pride and joy which is a replica of Ayrton Sennas original championship winning Go-Kart.

The last qualifying session from the National Paddock was the RAC Tourist Trophy For Historic Cars (Pre '63 GT) which included Lotus, Porsche, Alfa Romeo, Ginetta, Jaguar, Austin Healey, Morgan, Jensen, Ferrari and this fine example of an Aston Martin DB4 amongst many other makes and models.
The Jet Super Touring Car Trophy was up next although I was on my way to check out the Hot Rod display so I took a flying visit trackside before continuing to the secondary track.
The Hot Rod's went down a storm, there was a custom built drag strip, wheel spins a plenty and a lot of V8 rumble to accompany.
Back to the start finish line for one of my favourite displays of the weekend, the "Mustang Celebration Trophy" which not only contained Ford Mustangs but also included Ford Falcons, Morris Mini Coopers, Austin Mini Coopers, Lotus Cortinas, Ford Galaxies and a handful of Shelby GT350s.
The Jack Brabham Memorial Trophy For HGPCA Pre '66 GP Cars was up next.
Chopard International Trophy For Pre '66 GT Cars
90's GT Legends
Maserati Centenary Trophy For HGPCA Pre '61 GP Cars
FIA Masters Historic Sports Cars and Group C Endurance qualifying sessions were the last two batches to run, being in the press office for a quick debrief of todays sessions I headed over to the top of the Wing to catch the final batches before heading over to the live music stage for the first time.
The live music stage was up next I have written a separate article on the music side of the meet which can be found here
To finish the on track action there was a hot air balloon send off from behind the live music stage, however there was way too much wind to successfully inflate the balloons enough to take flight.
For more coverage of this years Silverstone Classic new articles will be entered onto the Landing Page which can be found here
