Goodwood Revival 2013 - SundayAhh Sunday had come around again, the final day at Goodwood is always a sad day but determined to make the most of the day I set off again with a vague itinerary, first off being a Sunday heading off to the holy communion only to find none other than Rupert The Bear amongst other people taking communion. The HM Marines band also played in the background.
A very special time capsule was buried in the entrance to the Credit Suisse control tower containing articles form some of the famous racing drivers present for the Revival, including Jochen Mass's racing boots from his Le Mans victory and a signed original photo of Sir Stirling Moss from the 1960's
With an hour or so to go before the first race was about to start I thought I would head over to The Spirit Of Aviation to take a better look at some of the aeroplanes that were on show. (More photos will be available soon on the Landing Page) no pun intended.
And the first race was about to start, one of the most exciting of the weekend Jochen Mass fought it out in the Mercedes 300 Gullwing against Smithies Austin Healey, Smithies unfortunately span off the track pretty early on in the race but started to regain speed and shave vital seconds off of his lap times until pushing the Austin that little bit too hard and spinning off yet again only to regain his stance on the track and continue to shave time off of Jochens lead.
There was a massive uproar from the crowd in the next 5 laps as Smithies continued to quench the lead of Jochen, and then finally overtaking Jochen on the home straight.
Wwith a handful of laps left to run all Smithies had to do was keep the car on the track and make sure Jochen didnt get the better of him around the corners. The Race was won with a 5.7 second lead over Jochen Mass
David Smithies, Jochen Mass And Max Girardo celebrate in style after placing 1st 2nd and 3rd in the heated race
Even the winning Austin Healey got to celebrate the victory.
As the next race was about to start I headed from trackside to the assembly area once again, only to bump into Chris Evans having a look around the Gordon Trophy cars before they set off for the flying lap.
The Gordon Trophy was such a thrilling race to watch many of the drivers hands fighting the steering wheels of these Formula and Formula 1 cars around the corners, all of these cars were built between 1955 and 1961 and are very different to the cars which are raced in the Formula 1 championship today
After the race I headed back around the various stalls and shops within the site, There was even a fully staffed Period Hair Salon situated opposite the Earls Court Motorshow, I managed to catch all of the staff together and ready to pose for a photo... It turns out that on this particular occasion asking a group of hairdressers to say a rather off the cuff phrase results in occasional laughter and incredible smiles.
The Ford stand inside The Earls Court Motorshow was one of the many manufacturers in attendance there was a queue every day to take advantage of the photo opportunities with a 60's style cafe as the backdrop.
This beautifully preserved Vauxhall Cresta was also one of the many cars on show inside.
Some of the manufacturers within the building had chosen to show the comparison between classic car and new model by placing them side by side, like the stunning new BMW 435i M-Sport Coupe sat next to an equally stunning BMW 507 Coupe as pictured below.
Or even the BMW I3 and the classic BMW Isetta, the pair of Maserati Ghibli's and the Porsche 911's from Saturdays page.
In the same area there was also a mock up of a Period BMW garage titled March Motor Works, This was where the BMW racing team cars were kept and worked on between races.
St Trinians invaded the assembly area, chanting and waving tennis racquets they spent a majority of the weekend terrorising every area of Goodwood they could find.
St Mary's Trophy Pt 2, When I spotted James Martin in the assembly area I wandered over to get a closer look at his MINI he wasn't driving the car today as he drove it in yesterdays race, instead todays driver of choice was Andy Harrison.
Below Max Partel, Bill Shepherd and the 250 GTO safety car get ready to drive onto the track
As PT1 the race was mostly dominated by whopping Ford Galaxies and the Alfa Romeo of Alex Furiani, For a long part of the race the two Ford's of Bill Shepherd and Michael Steele fought it out with Alex Furiani taking every advantage he could to squeeze his Alfa 1600 GTA past the opponents. But nothing could stop the might of Bill Shepherd who brought the Galaxie to a 6.593 Second lead.
However as it was a two part race once the figures were combined the race winners were confirmed as Stippler and Alex Furiani in the Alfa #33, with Kristensen and Steele in the Galaxie #83, and 3rd place being that of Bill Shepherd and Jochen Mass in Galaxie #70. The star of the Jim Clark Tribute had to be this stunning Lotus Pratt And Whitney 56, In STP Special livery
Heading off for another wander around the site I saw these interesting billboards. photos of what I found by following the arrows will be featured on yet another page so keep your eyes peeled on the Landing Page or by following me on twitter @M45T1N
The RAC TT Celebration had a nice sunny start however the weather soon changed which made for a more exciting race.
Just before the race Chris Evans was having a chat to some of the drivers, Derrick Bell, Jochen Mass And Christian Horner are pictured below.
The grid girls line up in expectation of the next batch of cars to land at their feet.
As the rain pounded down the lights and wipers came on, and the rear wheels started skipping around the corners, Fredrichs and Hadfield took the lead in the Aston Martin Project 212 #27 with nearly 14 seconds to play with over Harris And Reid driving the Lister Jaguar Coupe #17
It was time for the Ford GT40's to head back out on track for the last 50th Anniversary Celebration of the weekend.
The Ford GT40 50th Anniversary Celebration Parade cars also had their own garage area, It was such a joy to be able to see so many GT40's in the same place at the same time.
It was not only the male portion of the spectators admiring the Ford GT40's within the garage area either, I caught these ladies admiring the beautiful cars a little later on in the evening.
Dont fret thats not the last from the Goodwood Revival as afterwards I headed back "Over The Road" to check out the last evenings entertainment before heading back home again. there will also be more articles popping up on the Landing Page so keep your eyes peeled on twitter @M45T1N
