The 2014 Goodwood Festival Of Speed - Sunday ShootoutThis year's theme was "Addicted To Winning" and the addiction had the crowd awaiting the timed shoot-out competition to see if Nick Heidfeld's so far unbeatable time of 41.6 seconds set back in 1999 could be beaten. A lot of the hype this year was based around last year's 45.86 second attempt by Grégory Guilvert in the Peugeot 208 T16 "Pikes Peak" a purpose built hill-climbing beast of a car. This time the car was driven by the nine times World Rally Champion Sébastien Loeb, getting faster and faster across the weekend with a best time being 44.60 seconds.
The track saw a majority of the competitors gaining even more time on the qualifying laps which were set on Saturday, some of the top performers were Didier Sirgue taking the Jordan Ford F1 car up the hill in 48.30 seconds beating Lorina McLaughlin's earlier time in the Benetton Ford B192 by 4.82 seconds.
Then it was the turn of gamer turned racing driver Jann Mardenborough, most famous for winning the Gran Turismo Nissan GT Academy Championship and earning his new found career driving for Nissan in the GT-R Nismo GT3 cup car. He showed no remorse for the boundries of the track as he hurtled towards the finish line knocking Didier out of his place coming in at 48.05 seconds
As the tension was building up Kenny Bräck took to the wheel of his BMW Powered McLaren F1 GTR 'Long Tail' shaving 0.53 seconds off of Jann's time
With just two competitors left to run and the tension building a few of the lower placing timed shoot-out cars of the weekend were allowed to run up the hill-climb whilst Justin Law and Michael Bartels prepared.
Michael Bartels launched onto the track in the newly finished special edition Maserati MC12 'Goodwood Cent 100' knocking 1.7 seconds off of Kenny Brack's time, sadly not quite quick enough to beat Loeb's fastest lap.
It was all to play for when Justin Law took the Jaguar XJ220 LM to the hill, finishing up in 11th place with a time of 52.48 seconds.
Meaning that Loeb became the victor however still falling short of the staggering 41.6 second record time currently held by Heidfeld.
