The Deco: Charity Metalfest - 19-10-2013Saturday saw a one off single stage charity festival, The festival was held at a Portsmouth pub called The Deco and saw seven bands play the stage. The festival was set up in aid of the Feel Yourself Campaign. The aim was to not only raise funds but also awareness of breast and testicular cancer, There was a bucket of bits and bobs that you could feel with somebody at hand to help you with the correct way to check for lumps and bumps.
The mini festival was a success and raised over £200 for the charity, Unfortunately I was only able to attend the later part of the evening but managed to catch the following bands: Core Of Io, Stray Bullets Kill, Bloodworks and Zenthetix. Below is a photo diary of the evening, I hope you all enjoy looking through the photos as much as I enjoyed the gig. Core Of Io, This was the first time I have seen this particular band, Unfortunately I arrived when the band were finishing the last song so didn't get a real chance to get a feel for the music, however I liked the sound of what I did manage to catch, So I will ensure I try to catch the band the next time they venture closer to our area.
Stray Bullets Kill, If you like Metal and have not had a chance to check this band out yet you simply must, The band exhume all that is Metal, Build it into something akin to a dragon filled fortress and then spit it out across the awaiting crowd as if fuelled by the fortresses fire entombed within.
After seeing this band play a number of times before I can say that Saturday nights performance was every bit as brutal as the last, Ladies and gentlemen if you are in a metal band and you haven't yet seen Stray Bullets Kill, check them out as there is a lot that can be learnt from them.
Bloodworks were the next band up I have seen this band a few times now and can say that they get better with every performance. They have a very powerful backbone and tend to riff like a steam train, incorporating interesting solos into the strong backbones of the songs they give a slightly lighter approach to the metal movement.
Some of the locals enjoying the festival & Looking at the objects flying around I guess some may well of enjoyed it far too much.
This was just one of the many festivals that the festival favourites have been asked to play since forming in 2011. Always progressing their sound Zenthetix have added another guitar to the already rifftastic lineup. They were as always a class act and finished off the live portion of the festival in style utilising the speakers and guard rails so as to climb atop and awe the crowds mid set.
Here is a short video of Zenthetix shot by myself at the festival.
