Stuff And Nonsense For Parkinson's Uk
An Evening Of Stuff And Nonsense, was exactly what it said on the tin, after a short introduction by Max and Ivan via video-link guest compère Tim Vine took to the stage for the first time of the evening.
Tim VineAs compère for the evening Tim took to the stage in-between all of the acts reeling off one liners for which he is renowned.
One of my favourites had to be the joke about liking aerial photography, expecting a rather nice photo taken from the air Tim produced a photo of a TV aerial. Another highlight was the "Pen Behind The Ear" song/activity one I shall try myself next time I am near an entire box of biros. Neil InnesNeil Innes, famed for his collaboration and appearances with The Monty Pythons Flying Circus along with his role in The Idiot Bastard Band took to the stage first, after breaking the microphone stand in true comedy yet unscripted style he played a few rather comedic songs, before getting the crowd to chant the letters S.O.D.O.F.F back to him leaving with a bow and a smile.
Aisling BeaAisling Bea was a pretty big hit right from the off, she came on stage wearing a double Guinness can hat joking that it was the equivalent of her mothers milk, the jokes were tailored towards her Irish heritage and upbringing, there was also a fair amount of crowd interaction included within the set.
AbandomanTop respect for Abandoman, he managed to entice The Lord Mayor of Portsmouth up on stage along with local artist/Max Oleska's mother Anna to help out with a spot of rapping as seen above.
The Southsea ChoirAfter a short interval, the lights dimmed again and this time unassisted by the large PA system the room was quickly filled with the combined voices of The Southsea Choir they sung four songs in A, B, C and D#
Katherine RyanIn my opinion the performance of the evening had been awarded shortly after Katherine came on stage, having seen some of her appearances recently on "8 Out Of 10 Cats" and "Mock The Week" I was very much looking forward to a stand alone show. there were some very funny stories of Katherine and her daughter, there was a lot of interaction and the set seemed very adaptive to the crowd.
Max And IvanEdinburgh Comedy Award winning double act Max and Ivan who started off the evening via video feed made their second appearance of the night, this time on stage, the act consisted of a rather large improv segment utilising three air guitars two air guitar medals and a rather unsuspecting member of the audience, they also utilised the callback system pretty effectively by saying how the set would end, it turns out it really did end with Max shouting "Kilimanjaro" (you had to be there)
Harry HillThe final act of the evening was none other than TV legend Harry Hill, having watched Harry on the TV for a number of years I somewhat knew what to expect, he delivered exactly that, one of the funniest sketches had to be about a Mango holding company that he was setting up called A Mango Holdings and the series of unfortunate incidents surrounding the confusion with Amanda Holden. I do feel he missed the opportunity to belt out a "what are you supposed to do hey"
There was also a fair amount of crowd interaction within Harry's set, however mainly aimed at the Mayor and the rest of the front row. Overall the evening was filled to the brim with "Stuff and Nonsense" The video screen on the centre of the stage was used to broadcast a few pre recorded poetry readings from Sheila Hancock, Jenny Eclair and Matt Lucas along with a couple of rather powerful advertisements from Parkinson's Uk the charity that tonight was all in aid of.
Some of my photos of this evening also appear on the Team Locals website which can be found here - http://www.teamlocals.co.uk/comedic-stars-shine-for-parkinsons-awareness-290115
