Reel Big Fish - The Wedgewood Rooms PortsmouthBeing a self confessed fan of Reel Big Fish I was eager to come along to the show, albeit the second time I have seen them this year (so far) Continued below
The JellycatsThe Jellycats were the first band on tonight's bill, Due to unforeseen circumstances lead singer Emma May was unable to perform with the band, however rather than having to pull out of the show the band organised a male stand in, despite some of the songs being written from a woman's perspective the stand in did an outstanding job of making the songs his own.
I would really like to see them again, they certainly are a band to look out for.
Below is a photo gallery of the performance. The Magnus PutoThe next band up was The Magnus Puto, dubbed a Ska-Hip-Hop band from Bristol, they surprised me right from the moment they entered the stage, adding an electronic feel to a bouncy ska backbone and then topping the whole musical layer cake off with twin hip-hop style vocals.
Reel Big FishBilly Kottage walked onto the stage pint of beer in one hand and trombone in the other, which immediately gained a huge applause from the crowd. Starting as they meant to go on, however the song Beer featured later on in the set.
The band quickly launched into "Everyone Else Is An Asshole" following up with "Ban The Tube Top" and "Shes Famous Now" which certainly got the audience jumping.
Then came hit after hit after hit, ensuring the crowd were not stood still long enough for any beer to be drank, however there may of been a few spillages during the course of the evening.
Amongst the set there was a cover version of The Offspring's "Self Esteem" which was seamlessly blended into Reel Big Fish's very own hit "Beer"
